That is an utter lie. […] The COVID-19 pandemic spread in the country by 2020 and the importation of vehicles was halted along with that. […] The country was under lockdown for six months and certain sectors collapsed as a result of it.

On previous occasions, we obtained money from the IMF after pledging to fulfil their conditions...this time round, we had to first fulfil those conditions to obtain assistance. It was only Sri Lanka that was able to obtain that support [IMF assistance] in 7 months.

You cannot go for elections now. The economy is getting really bad. We have to stabilise the economy. The cost of the last election was Rs.10 billion. It will cost Rs.20 billion this time. A candidate will require Rs.25 million minimum for campaigning. We have 196 candidates to be elected plus 66 additional candidates who will be on the fray. That will come to about another Rs.30-40 billion.

If we are to convene parliament, the chief government whip and other key positions must be sworn in as cabinet ministers, if they are to remain in those positions. It was due to this that Hon. Johnston Fernando and Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena were sworn in as minister of highways and minister of education respectively.

The Six-Month Road Map announced by Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) last year has proven to be a resounding success with expected inflows materialising.

When we handed over the country to the Yahapalanaya government, China had the highest GDP growth rate in the world, and Sri Lanka was second. 

This is a credit line…If that credit line is not used, it will go to waste—it must be put to use. Our government will not go into debt by importing those vehicles.

In comparison to the 5 to 9 age group, the Sinhala population in the 0 to 4 age group has increased by 0.5%. But the Muslim population has increased by 1.4%, or threefold…
